Bryan Leek, MD

Board-certified in Sports Medicine

  • Dr. Leek is is the Padres head team physician. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and upper extremity surgery. He has advanced training in both sports medicine and surgical management of injuries to the shoulder, elbow, hand, wrist.
  • Dr. Leek completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at UC San Diego School of Medicine and his fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the San Diego Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship. His upper extremity fellowship was completed at the CV Starr Hand Center, Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

Andrew Hurvitz, MD

Board-certified in Sports Medicine

  • Dr. Hurvitz is an Associate Team Physician for the San Diego Padres. He is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon with subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine.

  • He completed his orthopedic residency training at Naval Medical Center San Diego and spent over 20 yrs in the Navy before joining UC San Diego Health.

  • He was previously the Chief of the Sports Division at Naval Medical Center San Diego and Head Team Physician for Naval Special Warfare Group 1.

Kenneth S. Taylor, MD

Board-certified in Family and Sports Medicine

  • Dr. Taylor is a Padres team physician, serving as the lead primary care physician for the club. Is a board-certified family medicine doctor who specializes in sports medicine. His expertise includes diagnosing, treating and preventing athletic injuries. Dr. Taylor has a special interest in using musculoskeletal ultrasound to perform diagnostic and therapeutic treatments.
  • Dr. Taylor completed a fellowship and residency at UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he also earned his medical degree. He is a co-team physician for the San Diego Sockers and the head team physician for UC San Diego intercollegiate and club athletics.

Daniel Slater, MD

Board-certified in Family Medicine

  • Dr. Slater is a Padres associate team physician.
  • Is board certified in both family medicine and integrative medicine, and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP). Dr. Slater completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona and a residency in family medicine at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. He earned his medical degree from UC San Diego.
  • A professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health, Dr. Slater trains medical students and residents at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

Amy Leu, DO

Board-certified in Family and Sports Medicine

  • Dr. Leu is a Padres associate team physician. She is board certified in family medicine with speciality training in sports medicine. Her expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of athletic injuries as well as general primary care.
  • Dr. Leu completed her fellowship training at UC San Diego and her residency at UC Irvine. She completed her medical degree at Touro University. She also serves as a team physician for UC San Diego Intercollegiate and Club Sports Athletics and is a team physician for the US Figure Skating Association.

Alec G. Contag, MD

Board-certified in Family and Sports Medicine

  • Dr. Contag is a Padres team physician and Primary Care Sports Medicine specialist. His focus is providing excellent non-operative musculoskeletal and primary care to all patients.

  • Originally from Venezuela, Dr. Contag is passionate about providing linguistically and culturally concordant care to Spanish- speaking athletes and non-athletes alike.

  • Dr. Contag completed his fellowship in Sports Medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, and his Family Medicine residency at the Scripps Chula Vista Family Medicine Residency Program. He earned his medical degree at the Oregon Health & Science University, and his engineering degree from The Johns Hopkins University.

Laura Sudano, PHD, LMFT

  • Dr. Sudano is the Padres Employee Assistance Coordinator, and she completed her fellowship training in Medical Family Therapy from St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado and doctoral training at Virginia Tech.

  • Before coming to San Diego, she worked with Wake Forest University where she consulted with teams and coaches and provided mental/behavioural health care and mental skills training to athletes. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Collaborative Family Healthcare Association (CFHA), a national organization that focuses on integrated behavioural health care.

  • An Associate Clinical Professor and Associate Director for Integrated Behavioral Health in the Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Sudano sees athletes from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Training Center and trains medical students, behavioural health providers, and residents at UC San Diego Health.
